HF Weekly Obsession: Sitting Pretty

It's been a while since I've written one of these, but for this piece it is absolutely necessary. We just got the Remington Lounge Chair in Bevan Lilac on our floor and... wow. I really like it. Like, really like it. It's so pretty! I am a happy little blogger.

Remington Leather Lounge Chair in Bevan Lilac/Polished Nickel, $1879 @ High Fashion Home.
But... during their Undeniable Value sale (going through October 12th), this chair is $1504. Not bad, eh?

HF Weekly Obsession: For the Ladies

We're adding another facet to our little midtown store: boutique. The entire first floor has been transformed with the arrival of a few very cool and comfortable lines of woman's clothing. We've even added a fitting room (a project that was tackled exceptionally by Cynthia, our store's displayer.)!
We're slowly bringing in new lines of tees, dresses, and pants for your shopping pleasure.
I love these easy, simple dresses from Dolan. I don't care how cute something is if it isn't comfy, but these feel as good as they look. We've got this dress in purple and a funky tie-dye.

Woman cannot live in dresses alone. On weekends, hoodies are key, and one with interesting details keeps you from that rolled-out-of-bed look (even if you did just roll out of bed). Try one from Splendid, the masters of comfort. We've got the one above in sunny yellow!

I think these satin harem pants from Maggie Ward are so cool. They're as light as air, so when you pair them with dressy heels and a simple top, you'll feel just like Lady Gaga (you know, sans pants).

There are only so many ways you can do a white tee, but I love the slouchy pocket on this one from K. Allyn. It's a white tee, but fashionized. Get yours here.

HF Weekly Obsession: Baby, It's All About You

Is it just me, or is everyone getting baby fever? It seems like everyone is either having babies or getting ready to! It must be something in the water because we just got in a whole bunch of awesome baby stuff! Allow me to walk you through it...
For the littlest of the wee ones, I love this hand-knitted, Yellow Label fruit rattles. They're soft and colorful, and you can feel good knowing that they're ethically (hand)made. Give us a call for more information.

A onesie that's perfect for monkeying around in! I adore these Monkey Onesies from Appaman. Get them here!

Give your kid something soft, cuddly, and washable to play with! These adorable dolls, by Blabla, are expertly crafted by Peruvian knitters, so you know they're made well. And who could resist that face? Give us a call for more information.
For the 80's teen that's all grown up, put your kid in a tee from Small Audience. The tees are vintage styled with cheeky phrases that adults can appreciate. Give us a call for more information.

How adorable are these for your little rocker-in-training? Not only are they badass, Me In Mind makes it easy to put on fidgety kids' feet. Give us a call for more information.

These are perfect for the summertime water baby. Put a mermaid on your teeny mermaid! Take your pick of Harajuku Lovers styles here.
Everything's Splendid when your decked out in supersoft Modal and Pima Cotton. I wish I knew someone with a baby girl so I could put her in this adorable ruffled onesie! Put that one in my cart, please!

HF Weekly Obsession: You're So Tree-sy

I stumbled upon this stool in the store the other day. Literally. I've got the bruises on my shins to prove it. Lesson learned.
Once I got a good look at the Tree Cycle Crystal Stool, I realized it was quite pretty with sections of sparkle captured within the tree stump. It would make the perfect little side table with a nice coffee table book and a vase of peonies. I'm just thinking aloud here...

Weekly Obsession: Natural Peroba

Symmetry is overrated. I prefer something a tad less perfect. Also, preferably built from wood harvested from old barns in Brazil. Well, coincidence of coincidences, Environment Furniture has just the thing I desire...

The Landrino Media Console is the ideal blend of closed off "throw your junk in a drawer before guests come over" space and open "look at the cool souvenir I picked up on my last trip to Europe" space. It also blends natural Peroba wood with the more reddish colored, cleaned Peroba wood. Of course, the only blending it will be doing, as far as I'm concerned, is with the rest of my furniture.

However, the Dumont Console may give the Landrino a run for its money. Again, the combo of natural and cleaned Peroba wood. I love that this piece resembles a puzzle. I can already visualize where my books and little tidbits would fit. Two beautiful pieces, space enough for one. Decisions, decisions!

Both pieces are available at High Fashion Home.

Weekly Obsession: Leave the Light On

See that ornate crystal chandelier hanging out in the background? Sometimes that hits the spot, but sometimes it's just too much. That's why I'm more interested in the simple glass cylinder in the foreground. An old-timey light bulb adds some interest, but it's great either way. Picture a row of them hanging over a kitchen island or a group of them hanging over a dining table at various heights. Imagine the possibilities!

HF Weekly Obsession: Right On Time

I need a clock. I don't really have a clock in the living room, except on the DVR menu and if the TV isn't on, I can't see what time it is. That's quite frustrating. And so, I plan on buying a clock. Grandfather clocks are too big and the roman numerals are annoying to read. This clock, above, is cool and minimalist and easy for slackers to read. It's really just a chunk of wood with a power cord attached, but plug it in and red LED lights appear from behind the thin veneer displaying the time! File that one under "How the heck did they do that?". At $176, it won't break the bank, and all of your friends can ooh and ahh over your uber-stylishness. And that's priceless.

HF Weekly Obsession: The White Stuff

I have a vision for my future. One day, I'll get a cute little home in the Houston suburbs and thoughtfully decorate it. Of course, my family room will be stain proof, mess proof, and every other kind of proof you can imagine, but I'll have a room of my own in which to use my favorite color palette: white with white with white. I see shabby chic white living rooms in decorating magazines and wish I could do that. But, messy husbands and (future) kids dictate that white furniture is not in the cards. In the house in which I grew up, my sisters and I knew that playing and spilling was done only in the Family Room, and the Living Room was for holidays and adults only. Mom wouldn't appreciate a Kool-aid stain in her nice white carpet. So maybe I can have my cloud-hued dream room. First, I'll invest in this:

Sharp, white leather in a grid tufted pattern with modern chrome legs would make the perfect cocktail table in front of a white sofa. Rex Bench by American Leather.

After my white room is complete, I'll throw a party serving only clear liquids (as in that episode of Sex and the City), and then install a gate to keep out the Kool-aid!

HF Weekly Obsession: I'm In Love With A Sofa...

This is a recent addition to the High Fashion floor and I'm in love. So modern! So cozy! So... tufted! It would definitely be a stand out piece wherever it goes. My favorite feature is that it can be uber-modern (shown here with super low stainless steel coffee tables) or tres-eclectic (I'm seeing white laquered baroque tables with jewel tone accessories). And, if black leather isn't your thing, it also comes in white. Three words: Fab U Lous.

HF Weekly Obsession: It's My Air O Plane

I love flying. I love everything about it from the time you get on to the time you deplane. I especially love flying to California because every time I step off the plane I am greeted by the warm West Coast air and a gentle breeze. I don't love going through the security lines or lugging my bags around (they don't call it luggage for nothing.), but flying is fantastic. That's why I like the Air O Plane art we just got in the store. They remind me of the dapper pilots and flight attendants in their uniforms, of looking out of the window into the clouds, and of reading my book for a few hours undisturbed by the noise of people on their cell phones. Pure bliss.

HF Weekly Obsession: Sienna-sational!

Looking for something to put a little pop in your life? Bored with a home chock full of neturals? Want something to bring a smile to your face every time you walk in the door? Look no further. The Sienna Chair will fulfill all of those requests and more. It may look unassuming at first, but its sharp angles, technicolor leather, and biker tough nailheads will knock you off your feet. Let it serve as the focal point in your living room and surround it with deep browns and shimmering bronzes. Looks aside, the leather is soft and smooth and it's comfy for curling up with a good book (or, more likely, a fashion mag). Find a way to fit this guy into your decor. It won't disappoint!

HF Weekly Obsession: Just Dandy

There are lots of places to run in this vast city called Houston. One of my favorites is Allen Parkway with it trees and parks and the Gus S. Wortham Memorial Fountain (aka The Dandelion Fountain). It's not hard to figure out why I like this fountain so much. It's hot, running gets sweaty, and this thing sprays a fine mist of water on me and fellow runners.

So, I was very pleased to find this little treasure on our second floor:

Appropriately named the Texas Dandelion Sculpture, it's a pleasant reminder of long Sunday runs and it looks fantastic on a sideboard. The only caveat is getting it to spray water on me like the real thing does. A girl can dream, eh?

HF Weekly Obsession: All Buttoned Up

Buttery arteries? Bad. Buttery leather? Mmmmmm... Gustav Chair by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.

You know that girl who could put together an outfit that was almost too much, but her last minute restraint made the entire outfit genius? Welcome to the chair version of that girl. Meet Gustav. The leather creates supple pleats in the button tufting (five buttons. no more, no less.) that is so exaggerated- almost a caricature of the traditional, sophisticated wingback. The wings meet the rest of the chair with a dramatic swoop. Rolled arms and nailheads add more detail to the piece taking it just to the edge and then... genius. You'd think with so many details it would go too far, but restraint is shown in simple feet and a cozy cushion. It's a bold piece to be sure. But who wants to be timid?

HF Weekly Obsession: Split Personality

By day... Clark Kent.

Most of the time, a piece of furniture is just that: a piece of furniture. Beautiful as it may be, multi tasking is not it's forte. Your end table does a great job of holding magazines and drinks, yes, but will it ever morph in an easy bake oven, churning out treats for your famished guests? I dare say, no. Now, take a look at the unassuming cabinet above from Four Hands. Antiqued laquer finish, marble top and ...........

By night... Super Wine Cabinet!!!
Zhang Wine Cabinet, $1159. Aqua or Black. (Call store for more information)

storage for 34 bottles of wine (or tequila or whatever tickles your fancy!), PLUS 40 glasses (so don't skimp on the guest list! You can send my invite c/o High Fashion Home...)! Each door holds 8 stemmed glasses and 3 large bottles. On the left, you have spinning glass racks and on your right, wine storage a-plenty. Not to mention the marble inlaid flip down top so you have plenty of space to play bartender a la Tom Cruise in Cocktail. Your place will most certianly be THE party house. Bungalow 8's got nothing on you. Maybe you should implement a cover charge.

HF Weekly Obsession: Now This Is Recycling

My mom has always said I was persnickity and fickle. That's very true for most things. The sectional I despised for months may become my latest obsession once something in my brain clicks. There's really no rhyme or reason to it. But every once in a while, on very rare occassions, for only a handful of things, my obsession lingers. For instance, I will never stop loving Banana Republic's Premium Denim. Nor will I ever hate Ben & Jerry's Cherries Garcia. And I will never grow tired of the Santomer Dining Table by Environment. When I am in the market for an amazing dining table, this is the one I will buy. Each one is handmade of peroba wood reclaimed from Brazil, meaning each is unique. It straddles the line between traditional and modern perfectly. Surround it with individual chairs or a couple of benches. Just make it your own (easily done)!

A closeup of the amazing finish and texture that is Environment's Peroba wood.

HF Weekly Obsession: Lounging Around

Style vs. Comfort. Can you have both? Absolutely. My latest obsession is the Gabriel Sofa by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. Down cushions and deep seating make it comfy. Subtle tufting and sexy fabrics make it stylish. If you pop on up to the 4th floor here at High Fashion Home, you'll see that we've placed it front and center. Actually, we've put two of them front and center. We love this style, and, apparently, lots of other people do, too. Sit on it for 5 minutes and you'll be a convert as well!

HF Weekly Obsession: Tres Parisien!

Take one Grace Sofa, add two Grace Chairs, mix with a feminine rug and coffee table, sprinkle on accesories, and voila! you have a very Parisian sitting room.

It seems to me that everything in America is getting bigger. Big cars, big meals, and big homes full of big furniture. But what if you long for something a little, dare I say, scaled down? What if, instead of a five bedroom mansion within a rolling countryside, you dwell in a one bedroom apartment in downtown Houston? Extra deep sofas just won't do. Go for something petite and clean. The Grace sofa by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams is the perfect starting point. It's small scale is made for those of you without 13 foot ceilings. It won't take up your entire living room, but leave you with space to move freely. The whole look reminds me of Paris, Grace Kelley (for whom is was named, perhaps?), or Audrey Hepburn sipping tea and polishing a glittering Tiffany diamond. Over three hundred fabrics are available for you to customize the Grace to your heart's content. Diamond not included.

HF Weekly Obsession: Go Organic

Organic Coffee Table by Global Views $879

A combination of two things I love: nature and gold. This table looks like someone grabbed some twigs and dipped them in burnished gold. Then they snapped on a mirrored top and called it a day. Not only is this table versatile (you can't put a label on this one), it's easy to clean (just wipe and go) and while your date's in the bathroom, you can easily lean over and make sure there's no spinach in your teeth. Lovely!

HF Weekly Obsession: Starry Night

Just in time for Christmas I noticed this angelic light fixture on the second floor. I can only imagine how lovely it would look grouped against a dark wall like a starry night sky. And I can only imagine because each one is over $1000. Well, a girl can dream, right? Cost aside, it's perfect for Christmas because such a sparkly time of year deserves a very sparkly light fixture. By the way... the picture doesn't do it justice to how lovely it is!

HF Weekly Obsession: Welcome to Denmark

Thank you, Denmark. You've given us such wonderful things, such as Helena Christensen, the danish (I'm not even sure if that's true, but it makes sense), and now, the Copenhagen coffee table. Okay, so technically, you did not give us the Copenhagen coffee table. Blue Fish did. But it's named after your capital city, and a wonderful name it is. About as wonderful as this table. One part rustic, one part industrial. It will mingle nicely with the shabby chics and the ultra moderns. And at about $600, you won't have to give up your daily latte to make it your own. Enjoy!

HF Weekly Obsession: This Bamboo Ain't For Luaus

Don't run and hide when you hear the words "bamboo furniture". This is not the tiki-hut variety you are accustomed to. Maria Yee's Bamboo Timbre pieces feature amazing texture and sleek finishes. The Metro Cone table is no exception. Finished in a lucious Toffee (at left) that looks good enough to top your sundae with, every striation of the bamboo comes out. While the midnight finish shows off the sleek design (which holds its own, by the way), it's the toffee that really makes the piece shine. Ain't that sweet?
