Celebrate The New Year With A Cocktail Party

posted by InteriorMOTIVE at 3 Comments
New Years Eve is just around the corner and it is time to gather with friends and family to celebrate. Why not have a cocktail party? This is a great way to get everyone together. All you need to do is plan out how everything will work out for this special occasion. Let's think about what your decor will be...

You don't need to go to the store and purchase a ton of things. Try and see what you can use that you already have. On Martha Stewart's website she showed ways to create streamer decorations with leftover holiday paper shown below. Click on the photo below to view instructions.

Pick a color and use it as your theme. Make everyone wear that certain color to make it interesting. The room below uses a dazzling purple hue and the decor is very festive.

Now, nothing is a New Year's party without wine or champagne! It's always nice to provide your guest with something new that they may not have tried before. There are billions of drink combination that you can indulge in. Don't hold back, be the amazing host that you are! Here is a few I found to keep the party going.

Bellini

Ingredients:
2 oz peach juice or peach puree
4 oz Champagne
Preparation:
1) Pour the peach juice or peach puree into a Champagne flute.
2) Slowly add the Champagne.

Rose Berry Bliss

Ingredients:
1 bottle Clos du Bois Rosé, chilled
1 bag frozen blueberries
1 container frozen pink lemonade
1 liter lemon-lime soda
blueberries for garnish
Preparation:
1) In a large pitcher, mix the Clos du Bois Rosé, antioxidant-rich frozen blueberries and frozen pink lemonade together.
2) Allow the flavors to marry in the refrigerator for an hour.
3) Top with lemon-lime soda.

The last thing you need to arrange before the night begins is some delicious and appetizing food. What kind of food should you cater for your guest? Nothing to large, go for bite size pieces that look like you took some time to make. The food will show your guest your appreciation for them joining you on that night. Anything dipped in chocolate always seems to be a hit. Try this recipe.

 Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Ingredients:
16oz milk chocolate chip
2 tablespoons shortening
1 lbs fresh strawberries with leaves
Directions:
1) Insert toothpicks into the tops of the strawberries.
2) In a double boiler, melt the chocolate and shortening, stirring occasionally until smooth. Holding them by the toothpicks, dip the strawberries into the chocolate mixture.
3) Turn the strawberries upside down and insert the toothpick into styrofoam for the chocolate to cool.

If you need some extra seating or decor to make your night special, remember that High Fashion Fabrics carry's an array of rental items for your party.

Colors Of The Rainbow

posted by InteriorMOTIVE at 0 Comments
There are so many different ways to use colors to brighten up a room. It is amazing how using different hues can be inventive and create something very appealing to the eye. No matter what shade you may choose to utilize, it will become a characteristic that suits your style.

Color Spectrum's contain all different kinds of hues that you can take advantage of. Here's my rainbow of rooms with colors that will inspire you.

Red is usually thought to be a romantic color. Using it in a bedroom is the perfect place for you and your significant other.

The pink chairs are the perfect touch for this space.

I never thought you could use so much yellow in a room and still have it be sophisticated.

Green adds life to a room. This one is for all nature lovers.

Blue is for glamor and in this space it does just that.

Purple is for royalty at its finest.

The use of brown in this space is very neutral and inviting.

White can bring out any color. Although, in this living room it sits quietly for those to look at, but not touch.

Can I get a cup of tea with that gray sofa, please?

Need a spa day. Relax in black and white.

Check out these hues from HFH website.

Silver Chic Designs

I checked out Etsy today looking for neat earring holders/organizers. Originally I was looking for some sort of tree type earring holder but I came upon these amazing twisty copper things and I fell in love with them. They are such simple, clever designs and are very visually appealing. I liked them so much I even put one on my Amazon wishlist (another wonderful thing, by the way). Tonight I went back to Etsy and looked at these items again and noticed that the designer of these wonderful creations is right here in Houston!! Please check out Silver Chic Designs... you'll see what I'm talking about.

I love the twisty, loopy, copperyness of it all! This one is called the Copper Vortex. It's a great way to display your earrings and it can easily rest on top of your dresser. I like that it makes use of vertical space so it doesn't take up a lot of room. Plus, it looks so neat!

This is the Lombard Street Earring Hanger. I love the snakish shape AND you can hang it on a closet rod; which is perfect if you don't have much dresser top space.

Here is the Birdcage Bracelet Organizer. Another different looking and beautiful piece.

This is so beautiful! It's the Tropical Breezes Necklace Hanger. Of course it could be used for bracelets too!

Give the Treble Clef Earring Display to the music lover in your life. Every piece looks so well made and unique.

She also has some pretty necklaces in the mix. This is the Stone Painting Necklace.

Feathers for Christmas

I was in Pier One earlier today and saw a beautiful green Christmas tree decoration made with feathers. I ALMOST bought it but I'm trying to not shop for myself while out and about. It really did have such a pretty look to it; I love the look of the feathery stuff. If you're looking for a nice gift for someone or want to strike out and make one yourself, here are some pictures to help inspire you.

A lovely white feather Christmas tree. Visit Martha Stewart for the DIY instructions to make this.

Here is the pretty green one from Pier One.

Here is a fun, Grinch colored one from Etsy by foolishthings.

White feathers with just a touch of silver glitter on the tips from ZGallerie.

So pretty with peacock feathers. From Etsy by meghanstonedesigns.

These Walls Are Something Else...

posted by InteriorMOTIVE at 0 Comments
As I was browsing through House Beautiful and Elle Decor's websites, I kept seeing a common thread. They both were displaying rooms with walls that shine. I almost thought that this was outrageous, but it actually looks very trendy and chic. The walls have a lacquer based paint which gives them a patent leather look which I adore!

Black just may be one of my favorite colors and it definitely looks amazing in this office.

There's so many colors in this room, but they all work very well together.
The walls are the icing on the cake.

The green walls make a very bold statement in this room, but it is a good compliment to everything.

Here's a few items from High Fashion Home that will help shine up your space.

B. Ash Garden IV, $238
C. Aristocrat Armchair, Silver, $629
E. Big Shade Pendant, Black, $319
F. Blank Slate, $298
  G. Bolo Table, Black, $269
H. Drop Stool, Green, $139

Lovely Home in Charlotte

I saw this house while checking out Southern Living. The house is so classic and beautiful on the outside and it just gets better once you walk through the door. I really enjoy the different prints and colors used throughout the house. Love it.

I have always loved houses that look like this one.

The family room. I love this room so much! Every piece of furniture is a different print but they all work so well together. That mirror? Fuhgettaboutit! : ) And there is plenty of seating so everyone can hang out together.

Now, green is my favorite color so I love the green walls and other little touches of green in this kitchen. Even if it weren't green I would still love it. I think every kitchen needs to have an island. I like the big window and the mix of glass door and solid door cabinets.

I LOVE that the stove is set in an alcove! I'm not sure why other than I think it looks neat.

The breakfast area is great! Yes, I love the lime green chairs but I also think the bench seating along the wall is very smart and then the storage space under that seating is brilliant!

The dining room looks great! I absolutely LOVE the chandelier!!

Daughter's bedroom. Of course, more green (love it) and I like the little reading corner complete with tent. The wallpaper is fun too and livens up the whole room.

This is the son's room. Love the bright colored bedding in the same room as the black and white curtains!

This is the "office". Truly, it's my kind of office. Very organized and uncluttered. Nice.

The parent's bedroom is much more neutral and simple but still very great looking.

Love, love this bathroom! It's got so much great light coming in. I bet a bath in that tub is so relaxing!
